These full-day trainings cover a variety of topics and are intended to promote your professional and personal development. The sessions are offered by Registry-approved trainers and provide continuing education credits.
Ain't MISBEHAVING-Just Saving all my Love for You!
October 9, 2010 or December 4, 2010: 8:30 am- 3 pm. Milwaukee Public Library, Centennial Hall, 733 N Eighth St, Milwaukee
8:30 - 9 am: Check-in and continental breakfast
9 - 10:20 am: Using Books to Encourage Positive Behavior
Young children's behavior can both entertain and challenge us! During this session you will explore books and activities that can be used to help redirect children's behavior and address topics such as bullying, anger, and biting. Often, dealing with these topics by starting with books is the first step to dealing with challenging behaviors. Presented by Milwaukee Public Library Books2Go staff
10:30 am - 12:15 pm: Making 'Sense' of Children's Misbehaviors
Children learn through their senses. Children communicate through their behavior. We will look at the most frequent disruptive behaviors that children have (biting, hitting, screaming, not sleeping, etc) and begin to understand what these behaviors are communicating. The theory and practice of Sensory Integration will be the topic of our discussion. Sensory integration can help teachers make sense of children's out of control behavior. You will walk away with a list of activities and techniques that will help organize children's behaviors and start your classroom making sense. 1 - 3 pm: Using Humor to Promote Positive Behavior
Humor is a dynamic tool underutilized by early childhood educators. Humor has the potential to capture and maintain kids' attention, reduce stress, defuse tensions, build community, prevent behavior problems from occurring, and establish vibrant learning environments. Get your funny bones ready as Dr. Bob Kann shares some of his techniques of humor and strategies for developing a healthy "comic mind-set." Presenter: Dr. Bob Kann, Professor of Education, Madison WI
NEW health and safety sessions just opened between June and December 2010! WECA, with support from the Milwaukee Early Care Administration (MECA)- through the Department of Children and Families- has created a series of training workshops designed to create healthier, safer child care in Milwaukee county. Sessions offered in Hmong and Spanish have just been added to our Sept-Dec training calendar!
Our new parent education series in Milwaukee offers many topics of interest to parents, caregivers, foster parents, grandparents, and educators. We can provide workshops at your group's location at times that best fit your schedule. Choose from our list of topics or we can work with you to customize a training that fits the needs of your meeting. Continuing education verification is provided to all workshop participants. In collaboration with the Nicolet, Shorewood, and Whitefish Bay school districts, we will be offering 3 parent education workshops this fall. Early childhood professionals attending these workshops can receive two hours of in-service credit and Registry certificates.
The following two-hour workshops will be held at Nicolet High School:
Family Nights are a great way to improve parent/educator communication while enjoying a fun-filled evening that includes a potluck or light supper at the end of a workday. Parents and educators participate together in a training workshop while on-site child care is provided.
